My connection to art began in childhood, surrounded by forests, castles, museums, and fairytales. Growing up in Germany, I was drawn to nature, old stories, and the idea of hidden worlds just beyond what we can immediately see.
I have drawn and painted for as long as I can remember. Although art was always important to me, I stepped away from painting for many years. After moving to the United States, I found my way back to painting and rediscovered how much I loved creating.
Today, through Kunterbunt Noir, I bring together influences that have stayed with me throughout my life: old-world storytelling, nature, imagination, and a fascination with the mysterious and unknown.
Animals have always been part of my life, and cats and ravens have become recurring subjects in my work because they are animals I especially enjoy painting.
My paintings move between contemporary realism, abstraction, and whimsical, story-driven work. I work primarily with acrylic and oil, often beginning with an acrylic underpainting before developing the painting further with oil. I enjoy working with layers of color, texture, light, and atmosphere and allowing a painting to develop as I work.
Many of my paintings begin with a story in my imagination. Each piece carries a story, but I hope it leaves room for you to imagine your own.
If there is one idea that guides me, it is to stay open to curiosity, imagination, wonder, and the unexpected. I believe we should allow ourselves to dream and to keep reaching for those dreams.
